Abstract
21,574. British Thomson-Houston Co., [Allgemeine Elektricitõts Ges.]. Sept. 24. Low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus.-A conductor entering a rectifier passes first through an exhausted chamber sealed from the rectifier by refractory material and from the atmosphere by india-rubber or the like. The conductor may consist partly of a resilient water - cooled b o x. In Fig. 1, this box 4 is shown as forming the cover of the chamber 5 and resting on a rubber washer 6. A porcelain sleeve 3, cemented in place, insulates the conductor from the wall of the rectifier, a leaden washer being placed between the sleeve and conductor. Fig. 2 shows another arrangement. In a third arrangement, the resilient box is attached to a single upper conductor passing through the cover of the chamber and to several lower conductors surrounded by separate porcelain sleeves.
