Abstract
1,247,302. Photographic antistatic layers. ILFORD Ltd. Aug.3, 1970 [Aug.8, 1969], No.39923/69. Heading G2C. A photographic silver halide material carries an antistatic layer comprising an aqueous solution of kappacarrageenan containing a sufficient amount of a potassium or ammonium salt to allow the carrageenan to gel, but insufficient to cause it to precipitate. The carrageenan may contain up to 30% of lambda-carrageenan and other carrageenans. The aqueous solution may contain 0.2 to 1 per cent by weight of kappa-carrageenan and 0.05 to 0À2 per cent by weight of the potassium or ammonium salt, e.g. KC1. The antistatic layer may be coated directly on to the silver halide emulsion layer, on to a supercoat layer, on the reverse side of the support or on both sides of the material in the case of an x-ray film having emulsion on both sides of the support.
