Photographic silver halide materials contain in the emulsion layer or a subbing or overcoating layer contiguous thereto 2 to 20g of a watersoluble cadmium salt and 2 to 20g of a watersoluble zinc salt per kilogram of emulsion. The salts may be chlorides, bromides, sulphates or acetates, and may be added in the coating finals or earlier or to the emulsion layer after coating on the film support. Improved gradation, gradational stability and fog are obtained.
