Abstract

1290868 Photographic materials EASTMAN KODAK CO 1 Oct 1969 [1 Oct 1968] 48191/69 Heading G2C Photographic silver halide emulsions are developed in the presence of an acylic or monocyclic thionamide (as defined) which contains at least one carboxylic or sulphonic acid group (which may be in salt form) which confers a negative charge to the thionamide at pH of 5 or less; no nitrogen atom (of the thionamide) directly bonded to the thionylcarbonyl group of the thionamide group is directly bonded to an aryl or substituted aryl group. The thionamide is an anti-foggant and is defined as a compound containing the grouping #N-CS#, the C and N atoms of which are either part of a single non-fused ring or are not part of a ring. The thionamide may be in the emulsion or an adjacent layer. Specified thionamides are of formulae:- (R<SP>2</SP>)(R<SP>3</SP>)N-CS-XR<SP>1</SP> and (in which X is S, O or NR, or, where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are taken together, -CH=CH-; R and R<SP>1-3</SP> are each optionally substituted aliphatic; or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are together alkylene; or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> complete a heterocyclic group).
