Abstract
1,247,116. High impact cured epoxy resin. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 13 May, 1970 [15 May, 1969], No. 23166/70. Heading C3B. High impact epoxy resins are prepared by dispersing a liquid polyepoxide, e.g. a polyglycidyl ether of a polyhydric phenol, in an aqueous latex of an insoluble cross-linked elastomer, e.g. a butadiene acrylonitrile polymer, in a weight ratio of epoxide to elastomer of 97 : 3 to 70 : 30. The water is removed by evaporation and the polyepoxide, containing dispersed particles of cross-linked elastomer is cured with an epoxy resin curing, e.g. an aromatic diamine such as p-phenylene diamine or a mixture of di-(aminophenyl) methane and N,N-dimethyldi-(aminophenyl) methane. The elastomer may be crosslinked by irradiation or chemical means and may have particles of diameter <10 Á.
