Abstract

In an insulating structure of the type in which a weatherproof casing of synthetic elastomeric material surrounds a conductive member embedded in a core of thermoset resin with a filler dispersed therein (see Division H2) the core consists of from 15-19 parts by weight of epoxy resin, from 5-7 parts by weight of mica powder and from 50-75 parts by weight of flint silica. In examples 5 parts by weight of Epi-Rez 504 was mixed with 1 part by weight of EPON curing agent z which is 60% meda-phenylene diamine and 40% methylene dianiline, and this catalysed resin was then mixed with the filler as above described with or without sand. A curing time of two hours at 175 DEG F. was followed by a two hour post cure at 300 DEG F. The reaction is erothemic.
