1,246,867. Feeding ironing machines. KANNEGIESSER MASCHlNENFABRIK G.m.b.H. 22 Aug., 1969 [11 Oct., 1968], No. 41985/69. Heading D1A. Apparatus for feeding laundry articles to an ironing machine 23 comprises a stationary loading plate 10 with an alignment edge 11 and an elongated stripper member 6 which in use moves around the loading plate 10 to strip the leading edge A 1 of an article A from the edge 11 and deposit it on a conveyor 17. In use as the edge A 1 is placed on the plate 10 a rough belt, or cylinder, 12 operates briefly to draw the article from a trough 22 and then support the weight of the article. When the operator withdraws from the beams of first and safety photocells 14 and 13 the stripper 16, which may comprise a single roller, a plurality of rollers (Fig. 6, not shown) or a belt passing round a plurality of rollers (Fig. 7, not shown), moves to the left from the starting position shown and down into contact with the article A and to the right to unroll the article onto the conveyor 17 which preferably is constructed of adjacent individual belts and operates continuously before rising to the starting position as belt 12 operates again to deliver the rest of the article A to conveyor, stopping as the tail of A breaks the beam 24 of a photocell 15. A second article may then be laid against the belt 12 where it is held until the tail of the article A rises from the beam 24 and the cycle may be repeated with the second article. The or each roller of the stripper is supported at each end on a belt or chain 32.
