Abstract

1,182,555. Anti-mastitis vaccine. SAPHAR LABORATORIES Ltd. 22 Aug., 1968 [16 Oct., 1967], No. 40126/68. Heading A5B. Anti-mastitis vaccine in unit dosage form includes detoxified alpha toxins, leucocidin and surface antigens, all made from mastitis Staphylococcus aureus. Alpha toxins and leucocidins are prepared by clarifying the culture filtrate in a centrifuge, adding formalin or beta-propiolactone and absorbing the solution on lead acetate, eluting with sodium phosphate, precipitating the eluate with ammonium sulphate, drying or re-dissolving and freezedrying the precipitate. The surface antigens are prepared by separating the bacteria in a centrifuge, extracting with phenol-water and precipitating them with ammonium sulphate. The vaccine is administered intranasally, intramammarily or intravaginally in the form of drops, tablets, solutions or powders.
