Abstract

124,646. Park, R. P. June 15, 1918. Edge-runners and pans and like mills. -Relates to mills of the kind in which rollers, working on a, rotating table, are mounted to rise bodily in opposition to spring loading-devices when ubstructions are met, and comprises means for adjusting the spring loading-devices. In tne mill shown, rollers 68, 69, 71, working on a table 16, are mounted on shafts 63 secured to a ballast-box 36 which is mounted in guides 34 on the base 2 and is supported by adjusting- screws 38. The loading-spring 48 is arranged between a sleeve 47 and adjusting-nuts 51 on a rod 43 which has a universal connexion 44 with the base. The connexion 44 allows the box to cant slightly in rising. Balast can be introduced into the box through a hopper 67. The shafts 63 are supported by brackets 66 and a hood 61 on the hopper. The shafts 63 are provided with bevel-wheels 83 engaging a floating gear-ring 29 which is supported and guided by rollers 28, 58 on the box and is formed with vertical feathers 128 engaging grooves in the table 16. The table is supported by rollers 8, running in a trough 4, and is geared to driving-shafts 12. The rollers are preferably driven at a higher peripheral speed than the table. To provide for a gradual reduction of the material, the rollers may be arranged in sets which increase in size and are arranged at decreasing distances from the table, the smallest roller being adjacent to the feed-shoots. In the machine shown there are two sets of three rollers 68, 69, 71, the rollers 68 being adjacent to shoots 84 for suuplying the material. The rollers 68 may be fluted. The rollers and the table are provided with renewable working-surfaces 81. The crushed material is diverted into shoots 86 by diagonal scrapers 87 which are held against the table by springs 88. The scrapers are secured at one end to the shoots 84. The rollers 68, 69 engage scrapers 89, Fig. 2, and the rohers 71 engaga scrapers 91, which are so shaped as to prevent dust from being thrown up. The table is provided on the outside with a vertically adjustable flange 21 which is secured by screws 23. To prevent dust from entering the gearing 83, 29, the table 16 is formed with spaced annular flanges 26, openings 27 being provided between the flanges. The hood 61 is formed with a flange 65 arranged near the outer ring 26. The table is surrounded by a plate 92, which is secured to the brackets 66.
