[Also in Divisions B1 and C2] Hydrogen is produced from carbon monoxide and steam by the water gas shift reaction, the process being characterized by the use of a catalyst comprising a mixture of compounds of copper, zinc, chromium and oxygen and formed by dissolving a water insoluble copper compound in chromic acid, reacting with a suspension of zinc oxide and roasting in the presence of ammonia. The shift reaction may be carried out at 150‹ C. or above, a temperature of 200‹ C. being used in the example (Example 5).
