1336402 2-Pyrrolidone SUN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO 21 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971] 2985/72 Heading C2C 2 - Pyrrolidone is prepared by reacting maleic acid or anhydride with hydrogen and ammonia in an aqueous system at a mole ratio of ammonia to acid or anhydride of from 1 : 1 to 1À2 : 1, at a temperature of from 200‹ to 300‹ C., at a pressure of from 1000 to 3000 p.s.i.g., for from 0À5 to 8 hours in the presence of a palladium-oncarbon catalyst.
