Heading C2C. 2,3,6-Trimethyl phenol is prepared by reacting 2,6-dimethyl phenol with methanol in the presence of an aluminium oxide catalyst. The alkylation may be carried out both in the gas phase and the liquid phase and the preferred reaction temperature ranges from 250‹ to 400‹ C.
