Abstract

1,244,752. Pin and hole stays. F. BERRY- 20 June, 1969 [22 March, 1968], No. 13905/68. Heading E2F. A pin and hole window stay comprises a bar 1 having a series of holes 9 and a separate end piece 4, a peg (15) having an annular groove (16), and locking means in the form of a plate 6 having a series of holes 5, held at one end by a tension spring 7 and attached at the other end via a stud 8 to a cam 10 fastened to a cross-plate 11 on end piece 4 and operating on a cam 12 fastened to a cross-plate 13 on bar 1. In operation, end piece 4 and therefore cam 10 are rotated causing plate 6 to move longitudinally and bring holes 5 and 9 into alignment, the bar is lowered over the peg, and the end piece 4 is returned to its position, plate 6 attempting to return and engaging the groove (16) in the peg. To prevent plate 6 from being moved without rotating the end piece 4, two pairs of normally-engaging L-shaped fingers 18 and 19 may be attached to cross-plates 13 and 11 respectively, disengaging when end piece 4 rotates. In a modification, one cam may be provided with a groove, the other cam fitting over it and having a pin engaging the groove so that axial movement without rotation is impossible.
