1,242,718. Moderator structures. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 30 June, 1969 [22 July, 1968], No. 34972/68. Heading G6C. In a carbon dioxide cooled graphite moderated nuclear reactor, destruction of the methane added to reduce or inhibit corrosion of the graphite, is reduced by controlling the porosity of the graphite moderator by radiolytio oxidation. The inhibitor is first omitted from the coolant to permit radiolytic oxidation of the graphite so as to raise its porosity and hence, also, its diffusivity. As the moderator diffusivity rises, the concentration of methane in the graphite interior rises.
