859,209. Nuclear reactors. UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Nov. 13, 1958 [Nov. 19, 1957], No. 35974/57. Class 39(4). In a reactor, the coolant of which contains oxygen, and is for example air, light water, heavy water, or organic liquids, N<SP>16</SP> activity is measured to determine both the temperature of the fuel elements and the neutrons flux integral along the channel. N<SP>16</SP> is formed from O<SP>16</SP> in the coolant by fast neutrons in the flux adjacent to each channel. The N<SP>16</SP> activity is measured on a scintillation counter followed by a discriminator which rejects the lower energy radiations of other isotopes.
