908,020. Thermonuclear apparatus. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Sept. 1, 1958 [Sept. 2, 1957], No. 27687/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (4). A nuclear fusion reactor using the reaction between deuterium and tritium is surrounded by a blanket containing lithium 6 and lithium 7 to breed tritium from the neutrons emitted from the reaction space. The proportion of lithium 6 may be between 0.1 and 50% of the total lithium, and if the lithium is in metallic form the blanket may be between 3 and 7 feet thick. A second blanket containing beryllium or thorium may be provided between the first blanket and the reactor to act as a neutron multiplying layer.
