Abstract

1,241,894. Traction apparatus. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. 5 July, 1969, No. 34032/69. Heading A5R. A traction apparatus slidingly attached to a hospital cot comprises brackets engaging longitudinal support rails (14, 15), Fig. 1, (not shown) attached to an inclined mattress-supporting structure 13, the brackets supporting guide rails 16, 17 to which guide members 21, 22, 23, 24 are adjustably fixed. Two of the brackets (18, 19) are joined by a cross bar 20 to which cords (27, 28) are attached, the cords passing over pulleys (32, 33) and being connected jointly to weights (30). Cords are attached to the legs of a patient and secured in suitable positions on the cross bar 20 by pins 32, 33. A torsional force is applied to each leg by cords attached to leg straps, the cords passing over the guide members and carrying loads 36, 37. On movement of the patient up or down the bed, the traction apparatus also slides up or down the support rails (14, 15) maintaining the desired traction in the desired directions. The inclination of the structure 13 is varied by way of a screw jack (25).
