Abstract

1471648 Leg splints: leg supports J A DREW 10 June 1974 [9 March 1973] 11500/73 Heading A5R A splinting arrangement comprises a leg splint 1, hinged in the region of the knee and attached to a patients thigh by a loop 4, the splint being supported by a frame 8 with adjustable support members 9a, 9b which retain by clamps 12a, 12b a pair of parallel telescopic bars 3a, 3b connected to limbs 6a, 6b of the splint 1 and resting by a downwardly projecting end cross-piece on a cross member 18 of an end frame 2. The end frame 2 has a tubular upper half of inverted U-shape telescopically received by a tubular U-shaped lower half and is mounted on a bed by elastic cords 21. A triangular bracket 22 is mounted in a selected pair of holes 26 in either of uprights 19a, 19b enabling weights 31 to apply traction to the leg of the patient via traction cord 29. An alternative end frame for a stretcher Fig. 4 (not shown), comprises two telescopic uprights connected by a crossbar, the feet of the uprights carrying slotted plates through which a strap is passed; the free ends of the strap passing around the stretcher poles and being resiliently connected together beneath .the stretcher by an elastic cord. The top cross-bar of the frame may carry a T-shaped clamp, Fig. 5 (not shown), to retain the bars 3a, 3b. To apply tension to the leg of a patient on the stretcher a tensator spring attachment, Fig. 6 (not shown) comprising a pair of coiled constant tension springs may be provided attached to the crosspiece 17 of the bars 3a, 3b and this attachment may also replace the weights 31 and be attached to cross-member 18 of the bed end frame.
