Abstract

The apparatus is a frame composed of a pair of rods (2, 3) connected by brackets (4, 5); distance pieces (15, 17) hold chest- and hip-belt (16, 18) in the correct position; the corrective force on the spine is exerted by flexible cords (23), each attached at one end to a vertebra and at the other to a tension distributor (22) fastened to the frame. Each tension distributor is pref. a rack-and-pinion, and is fitted with a ratchet and a dynamometer. Instead of having one vertical rod (2, 3) on each side, as illustrated, the frame may have two rods on each side, one to support the chest- and hip-belts and the other to support the tension distributor. The frame can be adjusted to fit the individual patient. The design allows the patient to sit up and walk throughout the treatment period.
