Abstract

1,080,511. Surgical limb supports. J. GARDEN. July 14, 1966 (May 11, 1965], No. 19777/65. Heading A5R. Apparatus for guiding a rope 19 and weight 20, used to support he limb of a patient lying in bed, is arranged so that the limb can be moved in any direction in a horizontal plane. In the embodiment shown, the apparatus comprises a framework 10, 12, standing over the bed, and a carriage 16 guiding the rop 19 on pulleys 17, the carriage being movable along transverse members 14a which are themselves movable along the longitudinal members 10 so that the pulleys can be moved in any horizontal direction. In other embodiments, only one longitudinal member 10, or one transverse member 14a having a single pulley, is provided in the framework, or several independantly moveable transverse members each with a pulley may be used to support several limbs. The support pulley may be secured to a transverse member 14a which is extensible so as to provide for the transverse movement of the pulley. The apparatus may be secured to and supported on the patient's bed, the uprights 12 being adjustable in length so that the bed itself may be inclined from the horizontal. The moving parts in the apparatus may be provided with locking mechanisms.
