Abstract

124,130. Austin, W. R. June 28, 1918. Separating by gravity: filters having sheet filtering-materials.-Feed-water for steam generators is freed from oil and sediment in a settling- device and then passed through filters. The water passes through a valve V into a spirally coiled pipe C or other tortuous passage arranged within a casing SC. The pipe C is immersed in water in the casing and is formed with ports above and below through which oil and sediment escape. From the pipe C the water passes to a set of filters F, arranged in parallel in separate chambers, and furnished with valves V<1>, V<2> so that any one may be cut off for cleaning. The filters F are formed of fabric stretched on polygonal lantern-shaped frames. The frames are supported on central exit pipes SP. Steam may be blown into the filters to clean them.
