Abstract
507,298. Filters. ADLER, R. Nov. 25, 1938, No. 34370. [Class 46] Apparatus for removing oil from condensate or other oily water comprises a container for ieceiving activated carbon, having an inlet for oily water at one side of the carbon and an outlet at the other side, a fluid-actuated ejector being provided for ejecting the carbon as it becomes saturated with oil. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a chamber A contains a layer of activated carbon placed between two perforated plates 1, 3. The water to be cleaned is admitted through a tube 4 and the purified liquid flows out through a tube 6. To cleanse the filter valves 5b and 6a are closed and valves 7a and 8a are opened to permit liquid under pressure to pass through an injector nozzle 7b and through a pipe 8. Carbon saturated with oil is entrained in the liquid. In a modification shown in Fig. 2, the water to be cleaned is admitted from a tube 12 and the purified liquid leaves by way of tube 14. To cleanse the filter the water is diverted up a tube 15 and through tube 15a to an injector nozzle D and causes the discharge of the oil-saturated carbon through a pipe 10. The. nozzle D is provided with a shroud 19. Water may be supplied to a perforated ring 17 to assist downward displacement of the carbon which is replenished from a hopper E.
