Abstract

1,240,997. Cutting blowpipes. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. 20 Nov., 1968 [21 Nov., 1967], No. 52983/67. Heading F4T. In an oxy-fuel flame cutting blowpipe the cutting oxygen valve is retained in position and operated by a one-piece resilient control member shaped to form a base arm 26 and a lever 27, the base arm being engageable with a complementary part of the blowpipe body to retain the valve housing in position, the lever being engageable with valve member 14 to hold the valve closed and being movable against the action of its resilience to open the valve. To assemble the valve, member 14 is located in housing 10, passed through hole 29 in the base arm and head portion 24 is slidably engaged with cut-away portion 32. With the axis of the lever perpendicular to the axis of the blowpipe, housing 10 is inserted into bore 6 such that the cut-away portions 30 of the hole 29 fit over brackets on the body of the blowpipe. The lever is then rotated through 90 degrees to assume the position shown in Fig. 1, with cut-away portions 30 engaging the corresponding brackets and tag 28 sitting in recess 33, thereby maintaining the control member in its correct position. In the absence of any pressure on the lever 27, the valve is in its closed position so that no oxygen flows to the cutting oxygen nozzle orifice. However, when lever 27 is depressed, the valve is opened, allowing a flow of cutting oxygen to take place, which flow is stopped when lever 27 is released and the valve is thereby urged back to its closed position.
