Abstract

1,240,615. Multicoloured yarns. JAPAN EXLAN CO. Ltd. 15 Sept., 1969 [13 Sept., 1968], No. 45459/69. Heading D1W. A multicoloured yarn comprises a blend of a) from 95-50% by weight (based on the blend weight) of at least one coloured, fibre having a circular cross-section, and b) correspondingly, from 5-50% by weight (based on the blend weight) of at least one differently coloured fibre having a non-circular cross-section in which the ratio of the diameter of the minimum circumscribed circle (as defined) to the diameter of the maximum inscribed circle (as defined) is from 1.2:1 to 5:1, and the diameter of the minimum circumscribed circle is larger than the diameter of the circular cross-section fibre by from 3Á to 50Á. The minimum circumscribed circle is the smallest circle which touches the contours of the non-circular cross-section at at least two points and contains the entire area of the non-circular cross-section. The maximum inscribed circle is the largest circle which touches the contours of the non- circular cross-section at at least two points and is contained within the contours of the non-circular cross-section. Suitable fibre materials include polyacrylonitrile, polyamide and polyester. The non- circular cross-section fibre preferably has a lower shrinkage value and lower crimp number than the circular cross-section fibre. The fibres may be composite or monocomponent fibres. In a preferred embodiment, the circular and non-circular cross-section fibres have different dyeing characteristics e.g. one is dyeable with basic dyestuffs and the other with acidic dyestuffs. The fibres may be dyed before or after blending or after the manufacture of a textile fabric.
