Abstract

123,893. Short, H. O. May 7, 1918. Docks, stages, and launching-ways.-A device for launching, landing, loading, or otherwise attending to seaplanes comprises an inclined slipway with rails to take one or more wheeled trollys to which the seaplane is secured, and a causeway on one or both sides of the slipway to guide a floating pontoon to accommodate the attendants. The pontoon is hinged at its shore end to a carriage on the causeway and a hinged gangway is provided. Fig. 5 shows a cross-section of the device with a seaplane secured to two trollys 3 running on the slipway 1 and two pontoons 10 on carriages 6 running on causeways 4. The pontoons 10 are hinged at their shore ends to the carriages 6 and have means for varying their buoyancy so that their rear ends may be submerged as described in Specification 22916/13 to enable seaplanes to be floated on to them. The seawardends of the pontoons have flexible or elastic connexions 11 to their carriages 6 which have rollers bearing within boxsection rails 5 on, the causeways.
