Abstract

802,600. Floating bridges. EISENWERKE KAISERSLAUTERN. July 13, 1956, No. 21643/56. Class 20(1) Floating bridge sections 3a, 3b are each pivoted at 19 on a barge 1, for positioning, along the barge during transporting to position, and then are swung round to transverse positions when they form one section of the bridge in position, when they are secured to adjacent sections where a nose 5a on one section, Fig. 10, guides into a pocket 5 of the adjacent section and pivoted hooks 14, Fig. 11, lock the sections into position. The barge is provided with retractable wheels 2 for transport on land and has a propeller drive 31 which can be swung up on the deck. Additional elastic floats 8 may be provided and have subdivisions to trim the barge, The bridge platform comprises longitudinals 3a, 3b, Fig. 9 (end view), closed together for transport and moved apart, with a closing piece 16 lowered between them to complete the platform. Cat-walk boards can be placed on brackets 20 when pivoted out to support them. Fig. 7b shows the bridge longitudinals 3a and 3b stowed along the barge and also swung out transversely on rollers and curved rails with linkages for spacing the swinging out, all operated by e.g. a power unit and compressed air supply. The end barges, Fig. 12 (not shown), may be provided with loading ramps which pivot up on top of the barge when not in use.
