Abstract

1,238,791. Grab buckets. RUSTONBUCYRUS Ltd. 23 Jan., 1969 [2 Feb., 1968], No. 3751/69. Heading B8H. [Also in Division E1] A bucket attachment for an hydraulic clamshell excavator or the like has the cylinder 11. of an hydraulic ram adapted to be attached to a stick of the excavator or the like, and the pistonrod 21 of the ram carries a crosshead 24 which extends through slots 18 in a housing 15 attached to the cylinder 11 and pivotally supporting bucket halves 30, the crosshead being connected to the bucket halves by rigid links 33. The cylinder 11 is rotatable about its axis by an hydraulic motor, Fig. 2 (not shown). A bearing flange 22 on the rod 21 slidably engages the housing 15, and a seal between the rod and the cylinder 11 permits limited lateral movement of the rod, Fig. 5 (not shown). A housing extension may be disposed between the cylinder 11 and the housing 15, Fig. 4 (not shown), and the piston-rod may have a corresponding extension.
