Abstract

1,238,338. Switches in washing machines. PATINVEST PATENT-UND INVESTMENT A.G. 10 Sept., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 42966/68. Heading D1A. [Also in Division H1] A washing machine is provided with a switch unit comprising a casing enclosing two switches for controlling the operation of different elements of the machine. One of the switches is controlled electromagnetically in response to the temperature of liquid in the machine and the other is controlled by the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid. In the construction shown there is one electrically operated switch with a fluid-pressure operated switch on each side, within a common housing, see Fig. 1 (not shown). The electrically operated switch, Fig. 2 comprises a fixed contact 6 and a moving contact 9 on a downwardly biassed spring blade. An electromagnet 10 has a pivoted armature 15 having its free end linked with the spring blade by a pin 19. Fixed contact 6 may alternatively be above scoring contact 9, as shown in dotted lines. Each fluid-pressure operated switch, Fig. 4, comprises an inlet tube 24 and a diaphragm 23 controlling a lever 27 by means of a tappet 26, against the action of an adjusting spring 28, so as to snap over contact spring 31 by means of compression spring 35, connected between arm 37 and switch blade 31. Contact spring 31 carries contact 32 between fixed contact 33 and adjustable contact 34. The electromagnetically actuated switch may be operated by a thermistor through an amplifier.
