[Also in Division A4] Hangers 3 having individual loads 7 are transferred against gravity action from a conveyer 1 to upwardly sloping storage racks 6a, 6b, 6c by a carriage 20. The latter is slidable on horizontal guides carried by a support member 17 under the action of a motor 21. The member 17 can be raised and lowered on vertical guide rails 18 by a motor 19. In operation, under the action of the motors 19, 20, the carriage 20 is brought into the broken-line position. The hanger 3 is automatically or otherwise transferred from a hook 2 of the conveyer 1 to rails 20a of the carriage 20. When the latter moves back to the full-line position, an arm 23 is swung upwardly to a position in which its end 25 is in abutment with an end of the hanger 3. A carriage 22 on which the arm is mounted, is then traversed by the action of a motor 22 so as to displace the hanger on to the rails of the storage rack 6a-6c with which the member 17 is aligned. The rails 18 are on a trolley which can be driven on rails 13, 15, by a motor 14. The rails 5a-5c may be extended to slope downwardly to gravity-fed loading stations (not shown).
