Abstract
595,435. Storage conveyers. WELDALL & ASSEMBLY, Ltd., and CONACHER, H. H. May 19, 1945, No. 12664. [Classes 78(i), 78(iii) and 78(iv)] In a car storage conveyer of the type having a remov.- able bottom, trucks moving in a circuitous track carry the car on top of the platform, and the ear together with platform is raised by a jack or the like into a storage compartment. In Figs. 2, 3, 4 motor-car at loading point L is received on raised platform 3 which is supported on electric truck 4 by jack 5. Truck 4 moves along " live rails 9 (connected on the " block " system) to a platformless storage holder 1 and upon lowering the jack platform 3 carrying car is left inside container being retained by projections 6 co-operating with ribs 8 on platform. Appropriate holder from any storage conveyer is then selectively and electrically rotated into position and then the truck elevates jack to contact the platform with desired car and carry both to unloading point D. Car is then run off and truck is reversed on turntable T2 and returned on second track to turntable T1 to start again. In the modifications of Figs. _ 6, 7, 9, platform 62 is carried on ground conveyer 60 in frame 61, Fig. 9, supported by plate surface 66 till it is underneath the appropriate storage holder la empty at its lowest position, Fig. 6.. Latter has longitudinal rods 51 to which are affixed support members 52 and also end arms 53 cooperating with end catch slides 54. Elevation of platfrom 62 by static jack 63 into holder la in collapsed position, Fig. 6, (right-hand, holder), secures arms 53 against catch slides 54, Fig. 6, (left-hand side) and lowering of jack leaves platform plus car retained in holder 1a. Appropriate storage holder is then lowered by rotation of the conveyer into position, platform 62 (elongated by engagement with slide 59 during the lowering movement) is raised and, projection 57 engaging with catch slide 54, Fig. 7, the reverse action takes place and the platform and car are lowered by the jack on to the ground conveyer and transported to unloading point. A plurality of static rams may co - operate with a plurality of platforms and holders at the same time, or they may be worked singly. The movement of trucks or horizontal conveyer and the jacks and holders may be automatically controlled. Horizontal conveyer is driven by sprocket wheels 67 and engagement of links 64 therewith may be rendered more effective by the addition of a flexible strand or chains. Specification 587,195, [Group XXXVIII], is referred to.
