Abstract
123,803. Davis, A. C. Feb. 28, 1918. Hatches.-A ship's hatch, Fig. 10, is fastened by battens b, which are pressed outwards to engage in recesses t in the beam and coaming. The ends of the battens are formed so as to seal the corners when the door is closed. The battens are connected by rods m to a central disk j, and are pressed against and withdrawn from the door frame by the rotation of the disk. The ends of the battens are half-butted and formed with engaging surfaces inclined at 45 degrees, as shown in Fig. 9, the corners being cut away so as to form tight joints with fixed angle-pieces on the frame.
