Abstract

1,236,608. Greenhouses. T. M. GILCHRIST. 24 Sept., 1968 [26 Oct., 1967], No. 45290/68. Heading E1A. In a greenhouse, Fig. 1, consisting of truss members 2, 2a, 3, 4, 5, 6-6d interconnected by portions 11, 12, 13 and cross bracing 14 the flexible plastics sheeting 23 is supported on wires 21, 24 connected to anchorages 7, 13 respectively. The wires 21 extend through pulleys 22 and are tensioned by turn buckles, additional turnbuckles 1, 5a, 6a being provided to tension the transverse wires 24 and certain frame members respectively. The base of the greenhouse consists of curved end plates 16 and longitudinal runners 15 of marine plywood. One or more layers of flexible sheeting 23 may be secured to a portion 11 by abutments 41 urged thereagainst by a clamp 44, 45, Fig. 15; a top rail 56 of channel section being bolted to the portion to support a roof service gantry. The greenhouse may be double glazed with the space therebetween evacuated or supplied with air under pressure. In a modification, Fig. 22, two layers of insulating material 70 are suspended by eyelets 74 from an internal arrangement of wires 69. Each layer 70 has a buffer 71 slidably mounted on the wires 69 and each buffer has a front face 75 of foam rubber and control wires 72, 73 connected to an electric motor. For numerous minor modifications involving modified frame constructions, tensioning arrangements, vents, materials employed, reinforcements and foundations the Specification and remaining drawings, (not shown), should be referred to.
