Abstract

[Also in Division E1] An elongated inflatable member 10 comprises two sheets 2, 3 of stretchable fluid impervious material sealed together at their peripheries, the sheets being unstretched, or maintained in the same stretched condition, during sealing and having different elastic characteristics so that they induce an arcuate shape in the member when inflated and means to permit inflation of the member. The sheets 2, 3 may be of materials having different expansion characteristics or both sheets may be of thermoplastic material with one sheet thicker than the other. The sheets may be sealed along a rectangular outline by an electronic heat sealer, and one of them may include a one-way valve 6. The members may be used for the ribs of an inflatable building. Alternatively a structure comprising a plurality of members may be produced by sealing two sheets about their peripheries and along a plurality of spaced parallel lines. The members may include straps whereby they may be attached to anchoring means.
