1,236,272. Packaging; boxes. EBAUCHES S.A. 22 Oct., 1968 [10 Nov., 1967], No. 49968/68. Headings B8C and B8P. A packaging insert for receiving a watch balance wheel with its mainspring comprises a receptacle-like insert body 5 and a cover 6 fixed on the rim of an opening of the insert body by snap closure, a space being defined between the insert and cover corresponding to the shape of the balance wheel with the hairspring, the body 5 having a shoulder 9 forming a rest for the rim of the balance wheel 16, a recess 8 for receiving an end of the balance wheel shaft 17 and an annular groove 7 adapted to receive with clearance a stud 18 fixed to the hairspring 20, thereby allowing displacement of the stud in a circumferential direction, the cover 6 having a salient portion 14 for receiving the other end of the balance wheel shaft. As shown, a cupped insert container 1 of moulded or pressed plastics material is provided with a shoulder 4, and cemented or welded to the flange 2 thereof, a cover 3. The rim of the insert has a shoulder 11 engaged by projections 12 on the cover 6 which is formed with an inclined lug 13 for opening the insert; the cover may, alternatively, be anchored to the outside of the insert. The covers 6 may be formed in a tape of plastics material or metal foil by cupping, each cover being assembled with a body 5 containing a balance wheel and the separate packaging inserts obtained by cutting out separate covers from the tape; a similar procedure may be used for packing the inserts in the containers 1, the covers 3 being separated when required.
