Abstract

1,236,183. Grippers for handling workpieces. K. MULLER, [trading as W. & M. AUTOMATION KARL MULLER]. 28 Jan., 1970 [22 Nov., 1969], No. 4186/70. Heading B8H. The jaws 52, Fig. 3, of a gripper are closed by a ram 28, 35 which acts through toggle linkages 23, Fig. 2, and. jaw closing levers 19, and, so that the jaws do not open if the ram fails, the toggles are arranged so that their pivots 22, 22a are in a plane which is perpendicular to the direction of movement of the piston-rod 28 of the ram when the jaws are closed. Two pairs of jaws are provided, one pair at each end of a pair of square section rods 18. The latter are rotated by the closing levers 19 which engage the central portion of the rods. The rods 18 are slightly resilient so that the toggles can be moved over-centre as the jaws close.
