Abstract
855,183. Attaching pronged-articles. WARDILL, J. P., and BARR, C. G. Dec. 18, 1958 [Dec. 24, 1957], No. 40138/57. Class 89(3) A device for applying clenching-pressure to secure pronged-clips at the intersections of reinforcing-members of containers, comprises a frame, e.g. of rods 1, Fig. 1, each pivoted at one end to a frame 2 and having a jaw 3 pivoted thereto at the other end. The jaws also have pivoted-connection with a member 5 movable against a spring 9 to pivot the jaws inwardly simultaneously, for applying said-pressure. The member may be moved by cams 6 rotated by handles 7. In a modification, the jaws have curved-portions for co-operation with a conical-head on member 5, so that downward-movement of the member pivots the jaws inwardly. In another arrangement, the jaws 11, Fig. 2, are pivoted to a frame 12 and to links 13 pivoted to a ring 14. The ring is movable-downwardly against a spring 15 by, e.g. pneumatic or magnetic-means, to move the jaws inwardly. A number of devices may be coupled together so as to apply pressure on all the clips in one container, in a single operation.
