Abstract

1,082,490. Tongs. E. ZURCHER. Dec. 1, 1964, No. 48728/64. Heading B4W. A tong-like clamp for pressing together glued workpieces 14, 15 comprises a pair of two-armed levers 1, 1<SP>1</SP> hinged together by a pivot 3, the ends 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of the levers opposite to the handles 4 having rocking levers 7, 7<SP>1</SP> mounted thereon and the levers 7, 7<SP>1</SP> having jaws 9, 9<SP>1</SP> hinged thereto. The levers are retained by springs 8 so that on closing the ends 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of the levers 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, the jaws exert on the workpieces a thrust directed towards the base of the mouth of the tongs. A counter jaw 11 pivoted on the hinge pin 3 is disposed in the base of the mouth, the jaw 11 having a cupshaped face which may have a slot perpendicular to the pivot 3. The jaws are provided with gripping surfaces as at 10, 10<SP>1</SP> by means of adhesive or serrations. A spring 13 urges the handles apart.
