Abstract

1,140,057. Mechanical presses. TETRA PAK A.B. 24 April, 1966 [6 May, 1965], No. 17934/66. Heading B5F. A press comprises two jaws 1, 2 movable towards and away from one another under the action of jaw-moving mechanism, the jaws being provided with dogs 10, 18 adapted, when the jaws are closed together, to co-operate, and, as a result of further movement of the jaw closing mechanism, to interlock and establish a holding force pressing the jaws together. In the example shown, the jaw 1 is carried by an arm 3 pivoted at 4 and is moved to the position 1<SP>1</SP> by a link system 11, 12. A force applied at D to the member 12 moves the point D to D<SP>1</SP>, a roller 14 on the member 12 being guided in a groove 15 in a fixed plate 16. Link 11 is pivoted at B to member 12 and at 8 to arm 3. When the dogs 10, 18 are interengaged, eccentrics 6, 8, 9 pull them and therefore the jaws 1, 2 together. The arm (not shown) carrying the jaw 2 may be similarly operated or may be connected to the jaw 1 through geared segments, as 5.
