Abstract

1,236,174. Electric incandescent lamp. THORN LIGHTING Ltd. 18 April, 1969 [21 Jan., 1969], No. 3384/69. Heading H1F. A tungsten-halogen electric incandescent lamp has a fill including a phosphonitrile halide. In the specific embodiments the halide is added in solution to the envelope, the envelope evacuated, flushed with N 2 and heated to evaporate the solvent. The envelope may then be filled with N 2 , Ar, Kr or Xe. On initial operation of the lamp the halide dissociates to its elements to give halogen to support the regenerative cycle and phosphorus to provide gettering action. It is preferred to use a benzene solution of trimeric and tetrameric bromides or a petroleum ether solution of tetrameric, pentameric, hexameric and heptameric chlorides.
