1318711 Electric incandescent lamps THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Aug 1970 38719/70 Heading H1F Iodine is introduced into the envelope of a tungsten filament lamp in the form of a solution of an iodide or hydroiodide of a Group IVb element which is an involatile solid at room temperature. The compound, preferably CHI 3 , CI 4 , GeI 4 or SiI 4 , is dissolved in a volatile non- polar organic liquid, e.g. toluene, prior to introduction, the solvent being subsequently removed by flushing the envelope with dry nitrogen.
