Piston packing.-A packing-ring of the kind formed from sheet metal, and of approximately L section, is constructed to fit the groove without the use of a keeper ring, by folding the flange, or forming it with undulations. Two or more rings may be nested one within the other. The rings may be constructed in accordance with Specifications 8571/15, 16120/15, 17221/15, Specifications 8571/15, 16120/15, 17221/15, 17222/15, 123,328, [Class 83 (ii), Metal articles &c.], and 123,329. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the flanges A<1>, B<1> of an outer ring A and an inner ring B are bent at their inner edges to form meeting flanges A<3>, B<3>. Alternatively, one ring only may be formed with a flange A<3> or B<3> meeting the flat surface of the flange of the other ring. A third ring may be nested inside the ring B. Fig. 4 shows the inner ring B bent to form a flange B<5> spaced from the flange B<1>. The flange may alternatively be bent in the reverse direction, so that the flange B<5> rests on the flange A<1>. Fig. 6 shows a ring A formed with an undulating flange A<4>. The rings described may be used singly, and in this case may be modified by bending the flange on itself with the bent .parts in contact. Fig. 9 shows a ring B nested within a ring A formed with an undulating flange, which is in contact with the flange of the ring B at the points B<7>, and spaced from it to the points B<8>.
