Abstract
16,120. Hecht, J. S., and Dowdell, A. T. Nov. 16. [Cognate Applicalion, 6973/16.] Packing, metallic.-A strip of brass, phosphor-bronze, or other metal is bent into a spiral A with the ends overlapping, or with two or more turns, Fig. 1, and is then bent to L- section, Figs. 4 and 7. The ring may be manufactured as described in Specification 8571/15. A straight or inclined bend a, Fig. 3, is made in the strip where it passes from the outside to the inside of the spiral. The piston is recessed to take the overlapping section and to prevent rotary movement of the packing.
