Abstract

123,301. Hesselman, K. J. E. Feb. 18, 1918, [Convention date]. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-A single pump supplies many cylinders, being driven so that it makes a delivery stroke for each fuel injection. The pipes 19 leading to the cylinders contain mechanically actuated valves 20, and they may be connected directly to the pump barrel 14 or to a chamber 18 into which the pump delivers. The valves 20 may open before and close after the delivery stroke. The pump may have automatic section and delivery valves, or as shown, a mechanically-actuated delivery valve 25 which is open only at the middle of the delivery stroke and a relief valve 26. Or it may have. a mechanically actuated relief valve which is opened during each delivery stroke and an automatic delivery valve. The invention is applicable to reversing engines.
