Abstract
1,232,913. Fusible cut outs. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENG. CO. Ltd. 9 Feb., 1970, No 11079/69. Heading H2G. A multiple element cartridge fuse, providing optimum number of elements with acceptable current density in end caps and reduced thermal shock to the body, comprises a ceramic tubular body 1, Fig. 1, inner end cap members 2, 2<SP>1</SP> having a central aperture 3 with radially symmetric V-shaped serrations 4, 5, 6, Fig. 3, a plurality of fusible metal strip elements 7 passing through the caps located against edge 6 in cap 2 and edge 5 in cap 2<SP>1</SP>; the strips being retained by bending the strip to form tabs 8, 9, and soldering, and tight fitting outer members 11, 11<SP>1</SP> with terminal portions 12. A circumferential pitch is introduced between opposite ends of the strip 7 which allows a portion of strip 7 to have its width extended radially to the body 1 minimizing thermal shock. The spacing between strips is constant. The strips may be notched and the ceramic body is packed with a quenching medium 10 such as dry silica sand.
