Abstract

123,266. Clemens, J. G. July 16, 1918. Soldering. - An electricallyheated soldering-iron comprises a small bit 32 mounted on a spring-controlled lever 26 and adapted to be moved into contact with a pair of carbons 17 to complete the circuit. The carbons are adjustably mounted in holders 15 carried by supports 9 passing through a bushing 7 in the handle through which the leads 4 pass. The lever 26 is pivoted to a collar clamped on the handle and the leaf-spring 36 is secured at 35, its free end 38 engaging a latch 39 on the lever to hold the bit out of contact with the carbons. In use, the latch is disengaged by the finger of the operator, the bow part of the spring then pressing back the bit. For spot soldering, it is only necessary to press the bit on to the work. the spring giving to allow it to engage the carbons.
