[Class 83 (iv)] Small work-pieces, such as handled by jewellers, opticians, dental engineers, &c., are brazed by securing the parts in a pair of clamps interconnected for mutual relative adjustment and electrically connected to a low voltage source of electricity, applying brazing material and flux to the parts and bringing into contact with the work a carbon electrode freely movable in a number of planes relative to the clamps and connected to the other terminal of the circuit to generate heat to melt the brazing material. A bar 15 plugged into one of the sockets in the cabinet 11 of a tapped transformer has secured thereto by a set-screw 18 a cross-bar 17 passing through holes in a pair of separate clamps for holding the two parts of a spectacle frame 14 and bent over at their ends to rest on the bench. The clamps each consist of rods 19 secured by screws 20 to the cross-bar and having ball-shaped upper ends which are embraced between strips 21, 22 interconnected by a screw 33. The parts of the work are held between the upper end of the strips 21 and separate strips 23, which are secured together by a pair of screws 24, 25 so that the strips may be moved parallel to each other. The other terminal of the circuit is connected through plug 27 and flex 26 to a pointed carbon electrode 28 carried by an insulated handle 29 and stem 30. The holder is provided with an adjustable steady arm 32. The transformer may be replaced by a resistance when using D.C.
