Abstract
695,281. Arc welding electrode holders. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DONELAN, J. A. April 26, 1951 '[April 26, 1950], No; 10303/50. Class 39(iii) ; An arc-welding electrode holder is used with a double electrode which is gripped with a wedging action between two jaw members of the holder. A double electrode 70 may be held between an inclined surface 67 of a jaw member 51 and an abutment surface 66 formed in a second jaw member 50, individual electrodes of the double electrode contacting the surfaces 66 and 67 respectively. A second pair of co-acting surfaces 67b, 66b enable a larger electrode 70a to be gripped, and. the jaws 50, 51, which are electrically insulated from each other, are urged together by a spring 60. Two phase current is supplied direct to jaw 50 and via terminal 56 and braid connection 58 to jaw 51. A strip of insulating material 68 prevents short-circuiting between the jaws 50, 51. A further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), has only one inclined surface and includes two pairs of V-shaped grooves enabling a double electrode to be held parallel to the longitudinal axis of the holder or at right angles thereto.
