Abstract
1,231,960. Catalytic hydrodesulphurization. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP. 15 Dec., 1969 [30 Dec., 1968], No. 60998/69. Heading C5E. A hydrocarbon oil 11, e.g. whole crude, atmospheric or vacuum residuum, shale oil, tar sand oil or residual fuel oil bends, of which at least 10 volume per cent boils below 1000‹ F. is catalytically hydrodesulphurized at 13 at 600-900‹ F. and a hydrogen partial pressure of 500-3000 p.s.i.g. and the effluent is separated at 21 to provide a stream 25 which boils below 1000‹ F. and a residual stream 54. The stream 25 is catalytically hydrodesulphurized at 24 at 450-900‹ F. and a hydrogen partial pressure of 300-3000 p.s.i.g. and then fractionated at 46 to provide a heavy fraction 55 which is combined with the residual stream 54. Suitable catalysts comprise Co and Mo, Ni and W, or Ni and Mo on alumina, zirconia, silica or magnesia, the catalyst used in the first hydrodesulphurization zone 13 contains 2-4 wt. per cent SiO 2 .
