Abstract

1,231,792. Laminated building panel. M. NSHUTE, and B. WADE. 3 May, 1968 [9 March, 1967; 28 July, 1967], Nos. 11105/67 and 34774/67. Heading B5N. A method for the production of a building panel comprises the steps of applying a parting agent to a working surface, applying to said parting agent a body of insulant material comprising a foamed plastics material or plied cardboard, applying to the body one or more layers of resin bonded glass fibre or a layer of veneer, applying a surfacing material layer to the resin bonded glass fibre or veneer, and removing the panel thus formed from the working surface. In one embodiment a backing sheet 10, which constitutes the parting agent, and is of fire retardant board or plasterboard, is applied to a support surface 11. The core 12, which may be of phenolic resin, P.V.C., polystyrene or polyurethane foam is applied to the sheet 10, and a layer 13 consisting of glass fibres and polyester or polyurethane resin is applied by spraying or hand-coating to the top and edges of the core 12. The resin is allowed to cure and excess is removed. A finish coating 14 of sand texture, paint, metallic or mineral surface is applied to the layer 13 and the completed panel removed from the surface 11. In an alternative embodiment the core 12, layer 13 and finish 14 are applied in turn to a parting agent in the form of a polythene sheet on a support surface. They are then removed and inverted before the backing sheet 10 is applied. The sheet 10 may be adhered to the core by a polyester/glass fibre adhesive. The panel may include a metal or timber frame and door and window apertures and frames. It may include fixing brackets, reinforcing ribs or electrical or mechanical services. The panel edges may be weather-sealed with neoprene. The edges may be rebated for lateral overlapping. One or both surfaces of the panel may be patterned. The panel may be non- planar.
