Abstract

1,231,702. Valves. WESTERN THOMSON CONTROLS Ltd. 4 Nov., 1969 [7 March, 1969], No. 12074/69. Heading F2V. A valve adapted to be inserted as a unit in a flow conduit of an I.C. engine cooling system, comprises a substantially cylindrical member 10 having a transverse wall 11 formed with a seat 17, and spaced from the wall a spring abutment 14 with a flow passage 15, a valve head 18 movable towards and away from the spring abutment against the action of a compression spring 19, and a temperature responsive actuator 21 disposed coaxially of the member 10 and attached to the wall by means of a stirrup 22 on the side opposite the abutment 14 and having its actuator member 23 attached to the head 18. The head 18 is formed by a cup-shaped member shaped so that initial movement produces only a relatively small opening. The wall 11 is attached to the member 10 by a turned over portion which produces a rim so that the valve can be fitted in a rubber hose 25 and secured by clips 26, 27.
